Storytelling has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, from making up silly stories to tell my sisters during bathtime to writing my first short story in elementary school. I was lucky enough to realize right away that writing was the vehicle by which I could really make those stories shine. As I grew older and started to understand the complexities of my intersectional identity—Black, queer, neurodivergent, femme, fat—I realized that writing also provided an avenue to empower myself and others like me.
I earned my B.A. in Communications and eventually began writing for Tagg, a magazine for queer women that highlights the voices of women of color. Soon after, I joined forces with The Queer 26 as a writer, eventually becoming their copyeditor and teaching workshops for queer youth. These experiences led me into the non-stop world of advertising agencies, working first at San Diego’s Rescue Behavior Change Agency and then at Chicago’s Black-owned advertising agency, Ten35. In between these major milestones, I’ve also maintained a blog, mentored younger writers, and volunteered my skills to LGBTQ+ organizations.
When I’m not writing, I scoop gelato at a local shop, enjoy all of the SoCal beaches, and laugh at absolutely nothing with my beautiful wife. You can learn more about my life outside of SRM Creative here.
